Providencia Island (or Isla Providencia) is located at northern end of San Andres, one of the Caribbean islands. It is 72 km away from San Andres’ northern end, and 240 km from Central America’s coast, which has beautiful beaches in its primitive state and are isolated (relatively empty), turning this Island a perfect spot for rest and long Colombian holidays.
Providencia Island is a tropical, empty palmed coconut paradise; which has fertile soil ideal for agriculture and tropical fruits. Tourism is under development, as the visitors count is increasing day by day due to its half a dozen solitary beaches and wonderful climate. Tourism is mixed with local life and it is a perfect place for family and kids as it is the safest island to travel. Earlier this island was in British Empire; hence most of the residents are very friendly and speak English, Spanish and Creole.
Major Events:
- Providencia is one of the top destinations for scuba diving (in Caribbean and Latin America)
- Island’s Carnival Festival (from 23rd to 26th June)
- Snorkelling
Tourist Attraction: Providencia Island has abundant fishes, lobsters and tropical fruits where one could find multiple colored tortoises spread across the Island. It is a perfect place to enjoy peaceful holidays along the unspotted, idyllic and unique paradise; and beautiful beaches. The culture is quite different than the Colombian mainland, which is similar to Jamaican culture. One could still see diverse lifestyle (laid back), reggae and rastas which reflect ancient culture of Caribbean Island.
