About Playa de las Canteras Beach

Playa de las Canteras beach is located in the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. This beach is situated in the north – western region of the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Playa de las Canteras beach is on the island of Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands. This beach is a golden sandy beach extending up to 4 kilometers. In the whole world; this beach is more famous and enjoyable due to its climatic conditions. The weather over here is mild accompanied with pleasant temperatures. The temperature is almost constant and rarely high temperature can be experienced in this beach. The average temperatures swing in the winter months between 22°C and 24°C, and in the summer months between 26°C and 28°C frequently exceeding 30°C. This golden beach is safe for swimming and one can enjoy bathing at any time of the year.

The southern part of Playa de las Canteras was deserted but since the construction of Alfredo Kraus auditorium this part has greatly improved. The auditorium building possesses 10 concert halls and hosts operas as well as the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria International Film Carnival and Classic Music Festival of Canary Islands. To the eastern part of Playa de las Canteras is the Santa Catalina which is a lively and busy district of Las Palmas; and to the north one will find La Isleta. Santa Catalina is an attractive shopping destination and La Isleta is the very old fisherman’s quarter.
Playa de las Canteras beach is the most desirable beach of foreign visitors as well as most city inhabitant. The different places around the beach which attracts tourists in a great number are: - Teide National Park, Aquasur Waterpark, World’s largest and oldest dragon tree, Timanfaya National Park, La lajita Oasis Park, The Green Caves, American Star Wreck, the beauty of Maspalomas Dunes, Cueva Bonita etc. Playa de las Canteras is backed by attractive promenade and has been rewarded “Blue Flag” rank for safety and cleanliness. It is also viewed as the best and prominent beach in the Canary Islands.
