Mehdia Beach is situated near the historic city Rabat in Morocco Country in North Africa. This is one of the Atlantic Ocean beaches in Africa. Apart form enjoying the world famous surfing on the high waves here, there is much more to be done at Mehdia Beach. This beach also harbors some archaeological sites like old Kasbah. The Kasbah of Mehdia is located on the mouth of the river Sebou. It is said to be built in A.D.1185 by Yacoub el Mansour. A castle of the Alawite Sultan Moulay Ismael is another historical place which has been preserved here.
There is a bird sanctuary near Mehdia beach where one can enjoy watching many species of birds both wild and tame. The Reserve Biologique also beckons tourists from different places. Mehdia beach is also renowned for its carnivals and live music. In these carnivals one can enjoy the traditional Moroccan music. ‘Sha’bee’ is a form of traditional music which is very popular in this area. The music played with violin, guitar and drums decorate the night life here. The belly dance of this place is quite famous. Tourists like to enjoy ‘Hookah’ while watching dances and listening to musical consorts on this beach. In addition to this, shooting games and other fun games like roller coaster are also put up here.
Though this beach is less commercial, there are good hotels and vacation rentals available for those who wish to spend one or more nights in Mehdia. ‘Hotel Camping Mehdia’ and ‘Hotel Dimess’ are the two major hotels and ‘Villa- El Amria’ is a vacation rental. Fishery is a leading occupation of this place so tourists are served with a wide variety of tasty fish in restaurants here.
