About Labadi Beach

‘Labadi Beach’, also popular as ‘La Pleasure Beach’, is situated near Labadi town which is on southeast side of Accra; the capital of Ghana Country in West Africa. Labadi is one of the towns on Atlantic coastline and Labadi Pleasure Beach is Accra’s main public beach. Taking the Accra Tema Beach Road from Accra and travelling 8 km on that road will take one to this beach. Labadi Pleasure Beach has 3 km of sea frontage. The beach is maintained by the local hotels so they charge an entry fee of 5 cedis per person. But for those who are staying at any of the hotels, there is no entry fee.

The strong wind and big waves make this beach perfect for the wide variety of water sports like surfing, jet skiing, kite surfing etc. The wide spread fine golden white sand tempts visitors to play games like volleyball, beach soccer and Frisbee on the beach. One can witness triumphant shooters shouting and cheering each other and doing different tricks on this beach. Those who love to ride a horse can also take a ride on horse back here.

The water is clean and warm and tourists enjoy bathing in the sea as well as sun bathing. One can relax on the sand for hours enjoying the view. On this beach shower facilities and changing rooms are also made available. The catering service is extremely good in the restaurants and the bars on the shore. Many venders can be seen approaching the tourists with traditional handcraft objects, colorful beads, new and secondhand swimwear, and sunglasses.

On weekends and other holidays the beach seems very much alive and vibrant. Local music bands perform live music concerts and the tourists enjoy reggae and playback music and cultural drumming and dancing. One can see people dancing on the tunes of Ghanaian Hip life superstars on the Labadi Beach. Sometimes even acrobats and buskers can be seen performing on the beach to amuse the tourists.
