Atlantic Ocean is a second youngest ocean in the world. 130 million years ago Atlantic Ocean did not exist when the continents were formed from breakage of ancestral super continent Pangaea. The Atlantic has been explored extensively since it got an earlier settlement along its shores. Among early explorers, the Vikings, the Portuguese, and the Spaniards were the most famous explorers. Most trade routes were established, after Columbus, European exploration got accelerated rapidly and after that Atlantic became major artery between Europe and America, and it is also known as transatlantic trade. In scientific explorations, the German Meteor expedition, United States Navy Hydrographic Office, Challenger expedition, and Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty observatory are included.
